AC, found on nearly all modern gear, is the primary statistic for tanks. Higher AC will reduce the DI roll of an incoming melee hit, greatly reducing the damage taken. Complementary statistics are Shielding and Avoidance, along with Spellshield and, to a lesser extent, DoT Shielding for spell damage.
