[edit] General Information

This quest, basically a container for four subquests. Completing it yields Treddlehoop's Wonderful Monoculor Seeing Device, the key to Dreadspire Keep.

[edit] Quest Information

This quest is started with Treddlehoop, a mechanical gnome found in Corathus Creep. Hailing him will start the Treddlehoop's Scavenger Hunt non-instanced mission, upon completing the scavenger hunt and doing the turn-ins, Treddlehoop will yield the following dialogue:

Treddlehoop says 'Well, thank you very much! These will be handy. Here, take this. It's one of my specialty products. I only give them to my friends. I make these for folks because I worry that they can't see things clearly. Why, when I became a gnomework I found that my lenses were far superior to my old eyes. With a good monocle someone like you will have some idea how much better your sight can be! In fact, maybe you'd be interested in helping me with my experiments to create a better version of my monocle? Of course, you would need to find better parts than I have available here and there would be no guarantee that it would work. If it does, though, you may have the product. Are you [interested]? If you're not interested now, just come back and we can work on this later, but bring that monocle I gave you, I might not be able to remember who you are, most fleshlings look the same to me these days.

You say, 'I am interested'

Treddlehoop says 'Ah, yes. Well, a monocle is made of three simple parts. I'll need a [rim], a [chain], and a [lens]. Of course putting these pieces together and grinding a proper lens aren't as simple as I make it sound.'

You say, 'What do you need for the rim?'

Treddlehoop says 'I need some material to make such a sturdy lens rim. I've heard rumors that back in the day the Shiliskin made fine jewelry that was completely resistant to the effects of water and general erosion. And, well, they were jewelry on their face-tentacle-things for formal occasions. I have been thinking that a ring like that would be a great monocle rim, with some adjustments of course. If you can find such a piece of jewelry it would be a good start. If you find a likely item come and tell me what you've found. I'll be able tot ell you if you've got something that will work.'

You say, 'What could you use for the chain?'

Treddlehoop says 'The chain is more than just decoration for a monocle. It must be sturdy to prevent losing the eyepiece as well as decorative. Many also forget to provide enough chain to allow for taller wearers or those with a desire to drape their chain. In any case, for this experiment I think we'll want something special. I know that my own people, the fleshy ones especially, are very good at making such chain. I suppose you might find something worth from them, though convincing them to part with it might be difficult. Luckily, we've seen plenty of Gnomes run through here since we were discovered. In fact, Mazil is caring for one right now. Come and tell me what you find and I'll let you know if I can use it.'

You say, 'And what would be ideal for the lens?'

Treddlehoop says 'Obviously the lens is the most important part of the monocle. See if you can find something special. Obviously it must be made from a substance that is clear and has the properties of glass. But I also want something that will magnify things. It would be even better if it had other properties I could put to use. I wish I could tell you more. Just come by and give me the name of what you've found that might work and I'll be able to tell you what I think about it.'

[edit] Quest Walkthrough

Completing this quest basically requires completing four smaller quests, and giving the rewards to Treddlehoop.

[edit] Treddlehoop's Signature Monocle (Treddlehoop's Scavenger Hunt)

The first mission, Treddlehoop's Scavenger Hunt, is requested directly from Treddlehoop, and does not take place in an instance; it requires that the group collect four items and give them back to Treddlehoop:

Upon giving these items back to Treddlehoop, you will receive Treddlehoop's Signature Monocle. This is one of the four needed items.

[edit] Spectacular Image Enhancing Prism (The Lost Notebook)

The second mission, The Lost Notebook, is requested from Brovil Pallivineg in Corathus Creep. It takes place in an instanced version of The Hive; the entrance is located outside the Drachnid fort in Stoneroot Falls. This mission entails collecting nine portions of a notebook; the portions drop uncommonly off of any mob in the zone. Duplicates can drop, which prolongs the mission slightly, but overall it's not too bad. There are no respawns in this instance, and the mobs do not summon; they can be kited.

Once the mission is complete, you will receive a personal reward (the reward you receive depends on your class), along with the Spectacular Image Enhancing Prism. Note that this is the same quest used in the mission for the level 69 Depths of Darkhollow spell/discipline, and it does not matter whether the group chooses to do normal or hard; both yield the Prism.

[edit] Gold and Platinum Twined Necklace (The Lost Gnomes)

The third mission, The Lost Gnomes, is requested from Mazil Hibbinap in Corathus Creep. It takes place in The Hatchery, a small indoor instance in The Hive. The mission is simple, although relatively time-consuming (roughly 90 minutes). To complete the mission, simply begin clearing Drachnids; littered throughout the Drachnids, there are little cocoons. Open these cocoons, and occasionally a gnome will pop out; say follow to the gnome and lead it to the zone-out to gain credit towards completion of the mission. Sometimes the gnome will not make it; instead, he will turn into a Drachnid, which is fine, just kill the spider to receive credit.

Once the mission is complete, you will receive a Gold and Platinum Twined Necklace in addition to your personal reward. This instance does not respawn.

[edit] Golden Shiliskin Tentacle Ring (Deserting the Ranks)

The fourth and final mission, Deserting the Ranks, is requested from Zahn in The Undershore. It takes place in The Nargilor Pits, an instance found in the Ruins of Illsalin. When requested, Zahn will give whoever requests the mission a shawl, which is used later in the mission. There are a handful of major objectives in this mission. First, somebody will need to find an ornate chest and loot a key from it, placed randomly in some remote corner of the zone; a tracker and/or Feign Death class helps here. Second, the group will need to kill the Guardian of the Pit, at the bottom of the main hall in the zone.

Once the Guardian is dead and the key is looted, use the key to open the door behind where the Guardian stood. Enter the room, and move quickly to a safe point in the far left corner. Some emotes will go off, and the group will begin to be attacked by single mobs. The mobs appear to automatically aggro whoever opened the door, so plan ahead for that. Emperor Draygun will spawn and begin to walk around the room; he is not attackable, all he does is roam around raising the dead Shiliskin to attack you.

Sometime during this process, the person who got the mission needs to give the shawl to any of the dead Shiliskin around the room. After roughly 10 single mobs, the group will be attacked by three at once; two legionnaires and one captain. Kill the captain and loot his item to finish the mission; he also drops your loot reward for the mission. Take the drop from the captain back to Zahn to complete the mission's final objective, and receive your Golden Shiliskin Tentacle Ring. You will also receive one of the five gems used in Vestiges of the Empire, a quest for The Shattered Blade, an evolving item that fits in the range slot.

[edit] Items Used

[edit] Final Turn-In to Treddlehoop

Once these four missions are complete and the items are collected, the next logical step is to take them all back to Treddlehoop so he can make a monocle out of them. Upon turning them in, you will receive Treddlehoop's Wonderful Monoculor Seeing Device, the key to Dreadspire Keep, and Treddlehoop will give the following dialogue:

Treddlehoop takes the items and examines them. 'These will do nicely, very nicely.' He pulls out several odd-looking tools and begins to pry at the ring. Eventually he snips it in half with a very large and dangerous tool. He works on the chain until he gets it into a shape he seems to approve of then takes out a rough looking stone and a very fine file and starts hammering and filing on the prism. It is surprising that he doesn't break it. Instead he trims and files it into a circular shape and slides it into the ring. He bends the ring until it fits snugly around the lens, then briefly turns his back to you. You see a flame jetting out from his midsection for a few seconds. When he turns back to you he is polishing a completed monocle, which he hands to you. 'This is a wonderful device. I believe it will serve you well. Keep it with you, you never know when you'll need such a thing. Keep your eyes open for better lens material. Tell me if you find anything that you think might make it better.'

[edit] Rewards

[edit] Entering Dreadspire

The zone into Dreadspire Keep is located in The Hive. Work your way out onto the living bridges and enter the northernmost cocoon. Toward the top of this hive is a web-covered door; click this, with your Monoculor Seeing Device in your inventory, to enter Dreadspire Keep. Note that there is a named Drachnid that sits in this cocoon; his max hit is around 6000, and he can flurry and proc root. He can see through invis and Rogue Shroud of Stealth. When you enter the zone, you will receive the following message:

You are looking over the object when you suddenly remember the monocle that Treddlehoop made for you and the words he said, 'you never know when you'll need such a thing.' You place the monocle over your eye and you can immediately make out a magical pattern. You place your hand at the center of the pattern and you open the portal. Now that you've seen the pattern you know that you will always be able to find that spot again.

After entering once, you can teleport to your guild banner or fellowship campfire if they are planted inside.

[edit] Formal Dinner Invitation

Although not part of this quest, another notable item is the Formal Dinner Invitation, which drops randomly from any mob in Dreadspire Keep or the Demi-Plane of Blood. The Formal Dinner Invitation allows players to zone into Dreadspire using a statue in Stoneroot Falls at approximate location (950, 1550, 50). This, of course, is much easier and safer than running through The Hive to get in. Upon zoning in through this statue, you will get the following emote:

The dinner invitation unfolds of its own accord and floats in the air. Your name, scribbled in crimson ink, is featured prominently across the top of the document. In a flowing calligraphy are the words, `Esteemed guest, we bid you welcome to Dreadspire Keep. Allow the Master the privilege of being your gracious host for dinner, relaxation, enlightenment and entertainment. Stay as long as you wish'. Before you can finish reading the invitation, you black out and find yourself elsewhere.

You may now zone into Dreadspire Keep at will from the statue in Stoneroot Falls.
