Introduced with Lost Dungeons of Norrath, augmentations ("augments" or simply "augs", for short) are items that can be added to gear, to add extra stats, effects, foci, etc. Augments normally take the form of gems, runes, or other small objects that could, logically, be placed in a small socket in an item.

More slots are constantly being added, each slot type takes specific types of augments.

Type 1 - General: Single stat (mostly LDoN augments, some DoN)
Type 2 - General: Multiple stat (mostly LDoN augments, some DoN)
Type 3 - General: Spell Effect (Only LDoN, some SoF)
Type 4 - Weapon: General
Type 5 - Weapon: Elemental Damage (LDoN only)
Type 6 - Weapon: Base Damage (LDoN only)
Type 7 - General: Group (Generic non-raid augments)
Type 8 - General: Raid (Typically only augments, occasionally high-end group gear)
Type 9 - General: Dragon Points (DoN vendor-purchased with Radiant/Ebon Crystals)
Type 10 - Crafted: Common (OoW player-made augs, also used in SoF Jewelcraft but not cross compatible)
Type 11 - Crafted: Group (Cultural Diety, also used in SoF Jewelcraft but not cross compatible)
Type 12 - Crafted: Raid (Bazu/Last Blood, some DoN augments, OoW player-made augs)
Type 13 - Energiac: Group (Augs for it increase purity only, increases benefits from Powersources)
Type 14 - Energiac: Raid (Augs for it increase purity only, increases benefits from Powersourses)
Type 15 - Emblem (SoF Symbols bought from the various faction suppliers)
Type 30 - (hidden) Epic 2.5 augment slot
