Banshees have no discernible history in Norrath. All that's known of them is that they are spirits of the deceased which still cling to this world. Given that they are primarily found in alternate planes, it can be assumed that they are kept there either as punishment or reward by their chosen deity.
The banshee pictured to the right is one of the many banshees that can be found in the Theatre of Blood.

The banshee pictured to the left can be found within the Plane of Nightmare.
The only other known locations of banshees are the Plane of Hate (where they take the form of female zombies and the Plane of Rage where they are found within the Seething Wall, presumably yearning to break free into the Devastation.
For some reason, Banshees occasionally can be found within Kerafyrm's Lair, though it's unclear what keeps them within the tomb.
