Brownies are one of the (if not the) the smallest races in Norrath. Native to Faydwer they are found only in Lesser Faydark and some of their expeditionary forces can be found in Steamfont Mountains and Greater Faydark.

Druidic by nature, almost all brownies are spell casters of some type. In addition, they are KoS to all races and classes excepting players that are in wolf form.

Ranging in level from 15 to 50, in the early days of EQ they were considered some of the most dangerous things an explorer could come across while on Faydwer. Their level compounded with the fact that they almost always had Spirit of the Wolf cast on them, their ability to root and snare and how small they were, it was easy for an adventurer to stumble into one of these fellows and not have a chance at making it to a zone line.

[edit] Secrets of Faydwer

With Secrets of Faydwer, we learn that Meldrath the Malignant has been using brownies as slaves in his giant Fortress Mechanotus. They fill the lowest level of the pecking order, even below the mechanical steamworks. If it weren't for their size and ability to get into tight spaces, they would probably be eliminated from his workforce completely.

Renegade factions can be found in various places throughout the expansion, and it's believed that they may be integral in quest lines with as-yet unknown rewards.
