[edit] General Information

Dragons are a great and powerful race of Norrath, descended from Veeshan herself when she left her mark upon the planet. Her rule decrees that where she leaves her mark, dragons should be the only race, but the other gods, starting with Tunare, felt it was very arrogant of Veeshan, and thus laid their own races upon Norrath.

[edit] Factions

There are many factions of dragons around Norrath:

  • The Claws of Veeshan, the brood that resides in Skyshrine. These dragons seek to keep Kerafyrm imprisoned, for the good of all Norrath.
  • The Ring of Scale, made up of five dragons that reside on Veeshan's Peak. The Ring of Scale is opposed to the Claws of Veeshan; they feel that Kerafyrm should be allowed out of his slumber, so he can (rightfully, in their eyes) destroy all other races of Norrath and bring the dragons into absolute power.

[edit] Kerafyrm

The lore surrounding the great prismatic dragon, Kerafyrm, is probably one of the most popular threads of lore in the game. Kerafyrm was conceived when dragon law was violated, and two dragons of different colors mated. The resulting offspring was Kerafyrm, a great and terrible creature. Because his creation defied the will of the Council of Veeshan, it was viewed as Veeshan's will (as only Veeshan's will could defy a decree of the council). Thus he was named Kerafyrm which translates to "prophetic savior." Kildrukaun, the High Priest of Veeshan, personally tended to the young Kerafyrm's education; secretly believing that Kildrukaun was destined to reunite the Claws of Veeshan with the Ring of Scale. This was Kildrukaun's prophecy.

Kildrukaun was able to sway three council elders to his belief and together they oversaw the final stages of Kerafyrm's development and he quickly became one of the Claws of Veeshan's most powerful generals. He led several successful campaigns against the rising threat of the giants of Kael and his influence grew among the elders of the council. However, something dark grew within him -- his bite became venomous and his talon ruthless in its command over his troops and allies. Eventually, his dominion and influence was nothing short of a monstrous creature of pure malignant hatred and an unrivaled lust for destruction and chaos that the council had no other choice but to demand his destruction -- a rule that Kildrukaun was present to hear and deceitfully condone.

Although short lived, the war between Kerafyrm's legions and those of the Claws of Veeshan would be a near crippling blow to the survival of the elder dragon council upon Velious. Kerafyrm's legions were severely outnumbered by those of the elder council, but time and time again they displayed their awesome strength and power. Eventually, Kerafyrm was restrained and taken to what would be his place of indefinite slumber. The four traitorous elders fled Velious safely to unknown locations, where they would lay in wait until the time came that Kerafyrm would be released.

Despite his grievous crimes, it was still against dragon law to slay another dragon, so an arrangement was made to imprison Kerafyrm indefinitely. His power was so great that a constant vigil was necessary to maintain the stasis that held Kerafyrm at bay. Four dragons volunteered: Hraashna, Nanzata, Tukaarak and Ventani; they condemned themselves to keeping Kerafyrm in his slumber for all eternity. However, eventually, players invaded the Sleeper's Tomb, slaying the four warders; these players sought the items that the warders carried. Once all four warders are slain, Kerafyrm is awakened; he goes on a rampage across Velious, across the great wastelands and even through Skyshrine, destroying everything in his path. When he completes his rampage, he leaves Norrath, seeking to find Veeshan and confront her.

[edit] Secrets of Faydwer

With the Secrets of Faydwer expansion, Kerafyrm is being brought back, presumably as the end-game mob found in Crystallos, Lair of the Awakened. He comes with his four warders, who have grown corrupt and very powerful over time, each drawing upon the power of an Elemental plane.
