[edit] Advanced Item Search
The easiest way to find items you're looking for in the EQ KnowledgePit is to look it up on the item search. You can search by name - or you can use the advanced search feature.
[edit] How it Works
The way it works, is by comparing all the submitted values to the values found on all the items in the database. If you leave one of the drop-down boxes set to "Any", it won't compare that value. The comparison is omitted for performance reasons - if you don't care what races can use an item, there's no reason for the script to compare the value to nothing. That would only make the search take longer to get you to your items.
Most fields return items that have a value greater than or equal to (indicated by the ≥ symbol) the value you fill in; for example, if you enter 5 into the Strength field, the search will only return items with a Strength value of 5, 6, 7, 15, etc. However, some fields make less than or equal to (indicated by the ≤ symbol) comparisons. These work similarly; if you enter 75 for the Required level field, the search will only return items with a required level of 75, 70, 42, etc.
When you fill in multiple values, it uses boolean and to join the results. This means that if you enter a 25 in Dexterity and 40 in Haste, the search will only return items that have both a Dexterity ≥ 25 and 40% or more haste.

All searches are done from the query string; this means that if you desire to share the page containing your search results with your guild or friends, you can simply copy and paste the URL of the search results into your chat window, forum, or wherever else. This can be done by selecting the entire contents of your address bar, right-clicking, and selecting the Copy command. The URLs for each type of search are circled in red on the screenshots to the left and right of this paragraph.
The advanced item search URLs are much longer; in fact, they are extremely long. This is because that search method accepts a vast amount of information, which is what makes the EQ KnowledgePit advanced item search so useful. Savvy users, however, could learn their way around the query string and achieve the same advanced search with a much shorter URL, omitting unnecessary information (fields set to "Any" or "0", or "255" in the case of Delay).

For another example, a Bard could search for all items that give an "All Instruments" modifier with the following URL: http://eq.knowledgepit.org/wiki/Special:ItemSearch?bardtype=51 - these are just small examples of the power behind the EQ KnowledgePit Advanced Item Search ;)
