Help:Creating a Profile
From EQ KnowledgePit
With the MediaWiki extensions created for EQ KnowledgePit, users can create profiles for their EverQuest characters. These profiles (example here) list basic character info, a link to Magelo and EQPlayers profiles, and fine-grained flagging info.

[edit] How to Create a Profile
Instructions for creating a profile are as follows:
- Go to the Main Page - click log in / create account at the top right corner of the page
- Click Create an account in the login form
- Fill in all fields (real name is optional, naturally...can put char name here or whatever have you...a few have just reentered their E-mail address)
- You will be E-mailed an activation link; read this E-mail and click the link - the link will look something like this: "http://eq.knowledgepit.org/wiki/Special:Confirmemail/2e4c3f00bf5861d9035499d639007c55"
- Once activated, click the log in / create account link again if you see it and log in with the credentials you provided at signup - if not, it logged you in automatically
- Click the my characters link that is now at the top right
- Under Add New Character, fill in all the provided fields and click Create Character Profile
- The character that you created should appear in the list of all your characters (which will be otherwise empty if this is your first character) above; click the character's name to edit it
- Go through the edit page and fill out all flags for the character. Note that clicking an Update button in one section will not update the other sections; if you see a horizontal line, you need to click the edit button above it if you want to save changes to the fields above it.
- Doing anything with the My Guilds section is unnecessary - that's for guild leaders ;)
- While here, feel free to contribute any information you have. For help on doing this, see Help:Editing ;)
[edit] If You Find a Bug
If you find a bug in the profile, please leave it on this page's talk page. Just select the + tab at the top of the screen to make a new talk post.
[edit] Known Bugs
[edit] Internet Explorer 6.0 (and 7.0?) Input Textbox Bug
Several IE users (myself included) have reported that they are unable to click on the site's textboxes (such as those on the login page) to give them focus and type in them. The workaround for this is to click on the top and left borders of the textbox, as illustrated in this image:
Clicking on the parts of the textbox outlined in red will successfully give it focus, placing the keyboard cursor in the box. Note that if there is already text in the textbox, clicking on the text will also work.
[edit] Fixed Bugs
[edit] First-Time Saving
For some reason, the Javascript implemented to disable subitems (such as "Xalgozian Fang", "Jade Chokidai Prod", and "Fang and prod given to Dugroz") when the parent item (such as "Key to Charasis") is clicked does not always work. This seems to happen the first time a user edits their character. If this is happening to you, save your changes, then skim over them and check to make sure they stayed.
[edit] Solution
This bug was fixed by setting the serverside code to check that the total value of an item does not exceed a set maximum value for that item. If the value exceeds that maximum, the maximum is saved instead.
[edit] Other Updates
[edit] 2007-10-11 (October 11, 2007)
Made changes that, when viewing a profile (example: Floppie Obsidian of the Seventh Hammer), allow all subfields of a given field to collapse if the field is checked in its entirety. Most significantly, this will collapse entire lists for keys and flags when the key is complete; for instance, Key of Charasis is collapsed in the example profile. Less significantly, this will collapse subfields when the main field is complete; for instance, Unadorned Scepter of Shadows is collapsed in the example profile.
Also removed the erroneously displayed "Update Progression" button in the Prophecy of Ro and The Buried Sea sections.
