[edit] General Information
This is when EQ was first released, on March 16, 1999. The level cap was 50, and there were no AAs. The only big raids were Nagafen, a red dragon underneath the Lavastorm Mountains, Lady Vox, a blue dragon underneath the Everfrost Peaks and the last living Kedge in Kedge Keep, Phinigeal Autropos. Three more raid zones were added before the release of Kunark, the Planes of Hate, Fear and Sky.
[edit] Races
- Barbarian - a race of tall, physically strong people, they live in the snowy mountain city of Halas, off of the Everfrost Peaks. Because of their physical prowess, they make good Warriors; they are also a popular race for Shamans.
- Dark Elf - an evil race of dark-skinned elves, they hail from the underground city of Neriak, off of the Nektulos Forest. They are similar in statistics to High Elves, and as a result, they are popular for Necromancers, Wizards, and Clerics.
- Dwarf - a race of short, stocky, thick-bearded miners, they live in the mining city of Kaladim, off of the Butcherblock Mountains. Dwarves make popular Paladins, Warriors, and Clerics.
- Erudite - a race of darkly-tanned humanoids from the cities of Erudin and Paineel, next to the Toxxulia Forest, these characters are highly intelligent. They make good Necromancerss, and popular Shadow Knights.
- Gnome - a race of small humanoids, based in the city of Ak`Anon, off of the Steamfont Mountains. They're good for intelligence casters, and can be all four; Enchanter, Wizard, Necromancer, and Magician. They are also popular for Clerics.
- Half Elf - half elves, half humans, they can be found in both the treetop village of Kelethin and the busy human cities of Qeynos and Freeport.
- Halfling - a race of small, furry people, they live in the city of Rivervale, between Misty Thicket and the Kithicor Forest. Notably, they have a small (5%) experience bonus, and they are popular for Clerics, Druids, and Rangers.
- High Elf - a race of elves that lives in the city of Felwithe, off of Greater Faydark. Like Gnomes, they make good intelligence casters and Clerics.
- Human - the basic human race; they have a slight experience bonus, but low base stats. Most notably, they can be any class except for Shaman. They come from Qeynos and Freeport.
- Ogre - an evil race of large, muscular, demi-giants who live in the city of Oggok, off of the Feerrott. They're highly notable for their immunity to stun from melee attacks that hit them from the front, and high resistance from every other angle. For this reason, they make great Warriors.
- Troll - an evil race of large, fat, and just all-around ugly humanoids(?), from the city of Grobb near the Innothule Swamp; they're notable for their regeneration bonus. They make good Shamans for this reason; they are also popular for Warriors.
- Wood Elf - a race of elves that lives in the treetops of the Greater Faydark woods, known as Kelethin. They make good woodland classes, such as Druid, Ranger, or Bard.
[edit] Continents
| World Map |
|---|
It only had three continents; Odus, Antonica, and Faydwer; plus a couple Planes. Each continent had a number of zones of their own, along with a few zones in between continents, such as Ocean of Tears.
[edit] Odus
Odus, to the west, was the smallest, with only eight zones, including two cities.
[edit] Faydwer
Faydwer, to the east, was the intermediate continent in terms of size, with thirteen zones, including three cities, plus one city (Kelethin) that was not its own zone, but instead a city in the treetops of Greater Faydark.
[edit] Antonica
Antonica, in the center, was by far the largest continent. It boasted a whopping forty-seven zones, including nine cities; some of which are split into multiple zones (Freeport, Qeynos, Neriak)
[edit] Planes
The Planes released during the old world time frame were, at the time, considered top-end raiding zones. Two of the three contain a deity to be slain, and were extremely difficult. The Plane of Hate has been revamped throughout the history of the game, so it wouldn't lie completely forgotten; however, the Plane of Fear has remained mostly unchanged except for upgrades to Cazic Thule. Hate and Fear contain class-specific armor drops from trash mobs. The Plane of Sky, which was the last plane added shortly before the launch of Ruins of Kunark, did not contain a deity, but was overseen by the Eye of Veeshan. Instead of class specific armor drops, the Plane of Sky contained many class specific quests, some yielding items that are unique to this day such as a Shaman item with a Feign Death click effect.
