A melding of the Warrior and Cleric classes, the Paladin is the holy warrior priest of EQ. A Paladin's purpose is to provide help to anyone in need while destroying any undead creature that they may come across. Combining healing and curative skills with melee capabilities, a Paladin can be the difference between life and death for a group of adventurers.

Due to their tanking abilities a Paladin can tank most mobs almost as effectively as (in the case of select mobs, in particular undead, more effectively than) the Warrior class. Paladins do not get the benefits of dual wield, have lesser HP and AC stats compared to the Warrior, and do not have the same defensive/damage mitigation AA (alternate advancement) abilities that are enjoyed by the Warrior. However, Paladins have the benefit of being able to heal, resurrect, cast self and group buffs that add to ac and hp, and curative spells/aa's that more than make up the for the lesser hp and ac stats. Additionally, Paladins can parry, dodge, bash, riposte, disarm and taunt almost as effectively as the Warrior class.

The Paladin is not meant to take the place of a warrior as they just cannot mitigate the damage from some game mobs (especially the end-game raid mobs) as effectively or efficiently as the Warrior class can. Neither are they meant to replace a Cleric as their healing spells do not yield as much healing power as those of the Clerical class, and are not as mana efficient. However, in the role of supplementation they are excellent and is what the class is designed to do. Having a Paladin in your group or raid means that adds can be picked up and off-tanked until they are mezzed or the raid/group can come assist on eliminating them. A Paladin can keep a group healed and cured of all but the most atrocious damage-dealing situations allowing the Cleric to keep the Warrior in the group healed.
