[edit] General Information

Added with the Planes of Power expansion, the Plane of Knowledge (or PoK, for short) is one of the most traveled zones in the game, to this day. It is regarded by most as the largest city in the game (some regard Abysmal Sea of the Gates of Discord expansion as larger), with two banks, countless vendors, and a large number of world containers for tradeskills. When Dragons of Norrath was released, entrances to the Guild Lobby and The Bazaar were added to the Plane of Knowledge; this being the only entrance to the Guild Lobby.

[edit] Accessing Plane of Knowledge

To enter the Plane of Knowledge, players must locate an object that looks like a book on a pedestal; these are generally located in the outskirts of cities on Norrath and Luclin. Originally, registration of Planes of Power was required to enter the zone; however, that requirement has been removed. Players can also take normal zone lines from the Guild Lobby and The Bazaar.

[edit] Lore

Gateway to the deeper planes of existence, the Plane of Knowledge stands as the peaceful repository of knowledge from all parts of the known realms. The central and primary location in the plane is the sovereign city-state of New Tanaan. At its heart lies the Great Library, Myrist, which is the storehouse of mortal knowledge. Its origin is a mystery, but it has stood for as long as history has been recorded.

New Tanaan was founded hundreds of years ago by travellers to the Great Library who required housing and amenities during their extended stays at the Library. The town developed, blossoming into a hub of research, a waypoint for breaking long journeys, and a point of departure for extra-planar excursions.

New Tanaan is divided into three districts: Kartis, the dark district; Tanaan, the neutral district; and Selia, the light district. An elected council governs the city-state with all districts represented by one delegate. Civic tasks rarely interrupt this group's intellectual pursuits, however, as no aggression is permitted within New Tanaan's boundaries thanks to a magic that prevents the drawing of weapons or the casting of harmful spells.

Though crime is almost non-existent, the citizens maintain a local militia.
