The highest denominator of "regular" currency in Everquest. Often referred to as "plat" by players, it can be exchanged for other denominators such as Gold, Silver, and Copper. Denominators of currency can be exchanged at a Bank for other pieces. Since all currency has weight in Everquest, players usually transfer their coin into platinum to carry on their persons. 1 Platinum piece is equivalent to 10 Gold pieces, 100 Silver pieces, or 1000 Copper pieces.

[edit] Obtaining Platinum

Platinum is most commonly found on any killable NPC (commonly referred to as a mob) levels 35 and higher. Players would loot this automatically upon killing a mob. If autosplit was enabled in the user interface section, the currency looted from the NPC would be divided up among the players in the group. An NPC will usually drop a random number of coin, according to it's respected level, however the giants in Rathe Mountains dropped insanely large sums of currency until a recent patch in 2006.
