[edit] General Information
Sanguimanus the Redfang (or simply Redfang, for short), while generally the second mob (Zi-Thuuli of the Granite Claw generally being the first, although it isn't a sure thing due to his random spawn mechanic) a guild can choose to face in the Demi-Plane of Blood, will probably be the fourth and final mob that a guild completes in tier one.
Upon his death, a blood-spattered chest spawns with most of the loot.
[edit] Redfang Encounter
Generally considered the hardest event in the Demi-Plane of Blood, aside from Mayong Mistmoore himself (and, maybe, The Performer), this event is both complicated and challenging. There are many mechanics at work during the event; adds, a silence cone AoE, high DPS, kiting, offtanking, a despawning mob, and more. Details are all outlined below.
[edit] Spawning Redfang
Redfang is spawned by killing all mobs named a screecher bat in the bat tower (at the end of the second bridge in the zone; the third spire that is reached if the zone is traveled linearly from the zone-in). After the final one is killed, Redfang will spawn at the first window in the tower (towards the bottom of the spiral ramp), issuing the following emote:
| “ | An ear-piercing screech reverberates throughout the surreal cavernous Demi-Plane of Blood, announcing the arrival of Redfang | ” |
|---|
[edit] Blooddrinker Bats
When Redfang first spawns, over the course of a minute or so, four adds named a blooddrinker bat will spawn. They respawn almost immediately if killed, and as a result can be taken care of one of two ways; by kiting them, or by offtanking them. They put out heavy DPS, especially from behind (6000+ damage backstabs), but are susceptible to the effects of blind; when blinded, they will wander off up the spiral ramp and forget what they were doing, and simply stand there. If the Blooddrinkers take enough damage to put them down to 96% (summon mode), the event is as good as lost.
[edit] Redfang Despawns
After being up for 3 minutes, Redfang will despawn. At this point, a large quantity of little bats named a voracious bat will begin to spawn on top of random members of the raid.
[edit] Voracious Bats
They have very little HP, but deal a relatively large amount of DPS. The easiest way to deal with them is to have the raid huddle into one location and have Enchanters either AoE mesmerize or stun, while Druids cast Entrapping Roots. Entrapping Roots will kill the voracious bats in one cast, without damaging the Blooddrinkers because they're immune to root.
[edit] Respawn Locations
Once all the voracious bats are killed, Redfang will respawn randomly in one of four locations, giving the same zonewide emote that he gave the first time. The four locations are as follows:
- The bottom door to his tower
- The bottom window (the same spot he spawned initially)
- The second window (about halfway up the tower)
- The top door to his tower
The top two locations need to be carefully pulled; if Redfang sits for too long (too long isn't very long at all) without being pulled, he will despawn completely and the event will reset. Generally, classes with an Invulnerability (Bards, most popularly) spell are used to pull the top two locations as they can simply cast their Invulnerability spell, aggro Redfang, and jump off the ramp to quickly pull him to the bottom. However, other classes (such as Monks) can pull from the second window - the top door is the only one that really requires invulnerability.
[edit] Other Information
Redfang also has a cone AoE silence. Because of this, he has to be carefully aimed away from the healer camp. Melee push also needs to be controlled. If he is pushed too close to the healers, he will summon the tank and possibly turn around to face the healers; if he is pushed too far away from the healers, the tank will either go out of range of heals, or Redfang will turn around to face the tank, and hence the healers.
On top of all this, Redfang must be killed within four spawn cycles; the fourth time he despawns, the event is failed and must be restarted.
[edit] Loot
Every kill, Redfang drops six of Congealed Blood of Redfang, an item for one of the four quests (Find Redfang) that help block the zonewide AoE in the Demi-Plane of Blood. He can also drop a Last Blood.
[edit] a blood-spattered chest
Once Redfang is killed, a chest, called "a blood-spattered chest" spawns with all the equipment loot in it. The chest is trapped, and must be disarmed and unlocked by a Bard or Rogue before opening.
