[edit] General Information

The Scars of Velious was the second expansion to EverQuest. It marked the addition of a fifth continent, Velious, into the southwestern portions of the EverQuest map. It also included a harbor within the Iceclad Ocean for boats to and from North Ro to dock.

[edit] Factions

The Scars of Velious expansion is unique in that there is a triangle of factions; each hates the other two. Killing mobs of one faction gains players faction with the other two (generally - this isn't a hardfast rule). The three factions are the Claws of Veeshan, Kael Drakkel, and Coldain. Each faction has its advantages; each has its own quested armors, top-end raid mobs, etc.

[edit] Coldain

Coldain faction is mostly used in Thurgadin, which is pretty much just a city. It has quests like a normal city; the only difference is, players cannot choose it as a home city. The easiest way to raise faction here is to kill mobs in Kael Drakkel. Major attractions to the Coldain faction are the ring quests; the tenth ring is, to this day, regarded as a coveted item. The right-click effect is highly useful. Also useful is the Coldain Dwarf camp in Crystal Caverns.

[edit] Kromzek

All players except Rallos Zek-worshipers start off with bad faction with the Kromzek giants of Kael Drakkel. However, Kael is still a city, and one can increase one's faction here by killing Dwarves, in Thurgadin. Kael offers a full set of class-specific armor quests (based on the four armor types of silk, leather, chain, and plate).

[edit] Claws of Veeshan

Like Kael, all players start off with bad faction. Mobs on the Claws of Veeshan faction can be found in the Western Wastes, Skyshrine, and Temple of Veeshan. The faction is useful for armor quests, based on pieces that drop in the Halls of Testing within the Temple of Veeshan; it is also useful for Magicians to use Call of the Hero to easily get their raid past the Crossroads in the Temple of Veeshan, to the North Wing.

[edit] Zones

[edit] Cities

Kael Drakkel - this massive city of Kromzek snow giants is built into the cliffs between the Eastern Wastes and Wakening Lands. Found within, for players with enough resolve to work the faction high enough, are countless quests, including class-specific armor.

Skyshine - this grand tower, full of Claws of Veeshan dragons, is the city in which players can turn in armor gained in the Halls of Testing. There are also several other quests.

Thurgadin - this city, ruled by snowy mining Dwarves, has dubious faction to all players except Rallos Zek-worshipping Barbarians by default. Most notably, it contains the ring quests.

[edit] Outdoor Zones

Velious Map
A map of Velious.

Cobalt Scar - a great sea, home to the aquatic dragon Kelorek`Dar, this zone is attractive due to the mammoths, which are hunted for their fur. It also contains the entrance to Siren's Grotto.

Eastern Wastes - this zone is also very large; it contains an orc camp, in which the entrance to Crystal Caverns can be found. It also contains a giant camp, along with the entrance to Kael Drakkel (Kael, however, is not found within the giant camp). Most notable is the entrnace to the fabled Sleeper's Tomb.

Great Divide - said to be the chasm created when Veeshan struck Norrath with her massive claws, this zone is aptly named; it divides the continent in half, along with connecting to Thurgadin and Velketor's Labyrinth. In the eastern half, there can be found mostly zones for players level 30-50 to go for experience. In the western half, there can be found mostly higher-end raid zones.

Iceclad Ocean - this extremely large zone contains the harbor at which boats dock, going to and from the Oasis of Marr, on Antonica. Notably, it contains the Tower of Frozen Shadow, and a small camp of bandits near the dock, at which Deluxe Toolboxes can be purchased.

Wakening Lands - home to the dragon Wuoshi, the Wakening Lands contain the entrance to the Plane of Growth, and to Skyshrine.

Western Wastes - home to a number of dragons, including a squadron that guards the entrance to the Temple of Veeshan, this zone is not for players on the weaker side. Dragons and ice burrowers roam the zone, along with the usual Velious animals, such as snow wolves. This zone harbors the entrances to the Dragon Necropolis and the Temple of Veeshan, two ominous dungeons.

[edit] Planes

Plane of Growth - this grassy plane is home to all manner of nature-loving creatures, such as dryads, horses, and living plants. Most importantly, however, it contains the deity of nature, Tunare's throne.

Plane of Mischief - this rather bizarre plane is home to all manner of creatures in general; from aggressive treasure chests to chess pieces, living plants to Halfling bandits, butterflies to bees. This zone has a number of attractions for the plundering adventurer and the aggressive raid force alike. The fun-loving deity Bristlebane calls this place home.

[edit] Dungeons

Crystal Caverns - located beneath the surface of the Eastern Wastes, these caverns can only be accessed by a teleporter found in the orc camp in Eastern Wastes. There is a small outpost of Thurgadin Dwarves in this zone, where players can sell anything they need in order to clear inventory space, and bank. Additionally, the zone contains crystalline spiders, which are popular for their silk and geonoids, which are extremely popular both for their fast experience, and for their tendency to drop valuable gems. The tunnel to get back out to the Eastern Wastes is found above the geonoids.

Dragon Necropolis - a zone whose location is unknown, it is accessible only by a teleporter found in the southern region of the Western Wastes. As its name suggests, this morbid zone is where dragons go to breathe their final breaths. A fleeting few of these dragons leave behind a ghost within the Necropolis.

Icewell Keep - found beneath Thurgadin, these icy caverns are home to all manner of nasty beast. Notably, this zone is home to Dain Frostreaver IV.

Kerafyrm's Lair (AKA Sleeper's Tomb) - located far beneath the surface of Velious, the only way in or out of the Sleeper's Tomb is by teleportation; the teleporter to get into the zone is found in the Eastern Wastes. This dark dungeon is where the First Brood of dragons elected to imprison the heretic prismatic dragon, Kerafyrm, along with four Warders to ensure that she remains imprisoned.

Siren's Grotto - used mostly for a method of getting between Cobalt Scar and the Western Wastes, this zone is also home to a number of sirens, manatees, and other (mostly peaceful) aquatic creatures.

Temple of Veeshan - a four-pointed dungeon, this zone is home to a number of dragons, wurms, drakes, and other winged lizards on the Claws of Veeshan faction. In the south wing is the zone in from the Western Wastes. The east wing is also known as the Halls of Testing; it contains the weakest of all the mobs located within the dungeon. The west wing is the next step up; it also contains the zone out to Western Wastes. Then, finally, the north wing contains the "big prey", so to speak; dragons everywhere, including Vulak`Aer. It also contains the zone into the Plane of Mischief, which is the only way out other than teleportation spells, after jumping over the ledge to get into the north wing. Last but not least is the four-way crossroads at the center of the zone; if a player drags a corpse through this area, they will automatically get aggro from everything nearby, regardless of their faction or invisibility status.

Tower of Frozen Shadow - located in the middle of the Iceclad Ocean, this tall, dark tower is home to all sorts of undead; vampires, skeletons, zombies, even Tserrina, Mayong Mistmoore's bride.
